Hello! I am an assistant professor of political science at the University of Hamburg, an affiliate of the Hamburg Center for Health Economics, and a fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Research Center. My research focuses on violence, migration, and health—and the interaction between these themes. In my work, I use experiments or quasi-experimental designs, and frequently use GIS for visualization and analysis.
In my work, I frequently mix quantitative analyses with qualitative data from interviews, and I have conducted fieldwork in several countries, including Germany, Morocco, Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Armenia, Georgia, and Kyrgyzstan.
I hold a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence, a M.Sc. in African Studies from the University of Oxford, a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Dresden, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the WZB and Bocconi University prior to joining the University of Hamburg.
I am the (co-)lead of the WarGen and ViVac projects, funded by the DFG and GLOHRA, respectively.
