Hello and welcome to my website! I am an assistant professor of political science at the University of Hamburg, an affiliate of the Hamburg Center for Health Economics, and a fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Research Center. My research focuses on violence, migration/ethnic politics, and health—and the interactions between these themes. In terms of methods, I typically use experimental or quasi-experimental designs, and often mixes quantitative analysis with qualitative data from interviews. I have conducted fieldwork in several countries, including Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gambia, Georgia, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Nigeria, and Senegal.
I hold a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence, an M.Sc. in African Studies from the University of Oxford, a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Dresden, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the WZB and Bocconi University prior to joining the University of Hamburg.
I am the (co-)lead of the WarGen and ViVac projects, funded by the DFG and GLOHRA, respectively.
